Frequently asked questions
Why does FoldPrompt ask for camera access?
To show a live preview and record your video. FoldPrompt only asks when you open the recorder. Video is recorded to FoldPrompt's storage on your iPhone.
Why does FoldPrompt ask for microphone access?
To record sound with your video, to make audio-only recordings, and to let Voice Follow follow your voice if you turn it on. Without microphone access you can still use the teleprompter, but takes will have no sound and Voice Follow will be off.
Why does FoldPrompt ask to add to my Photos?
Only when you tap Save to Photos. FoldPrompt uses add-only access, so it can save your finished video but cannot see or change anything already in your library.
I said "Don't Allow". How do I turn a permission back on?
Open the iPhone Settings app, scroll to FoldPrompt, and turn on Camera, Microphone or Photos. FoldPrompt also shows an Open Settings button when a permission is off.
What is Voice Follow, and is my voice uploaded?
Voice Follow scrolls the script as you speak. It uses Apple's on-device speech recognition, so your voice and transcripts are not sent to us or anyone else, and transcripts are not saved. The first time you use it in a language, iOS may download Apple's speech model for that language, so you may need an internet connection once. If Voice Follow is not available for your iOS version or language, use Auto-scroll.
Where do my recordings go?
Takes and audio recordings are stored inside FoldPrompt on your iPhone. They leave FoldPrompt only when you choose Save to Photos or Share. Nothing is uploaded to us; FoldPrompt has no cloud service.
Where are my scripts stored? Can I sync them?
Scripts are stored on your iPhone only. Version 1.0 does not sync between devices. If you use iCloud Backup, your iPhone backup may include FoldPrompt's data, and restoring that backup restores it.
How do I delete my data?
- A script: open the script's menu in your library and choose Delete Script.
- Recordings: open Settings > Storage in FoldPrompt and tap Delete All Recordings.
- Everything: delete the FoldPrompt app. iOS removes all scripts, takes, recordings and settings stored in FoldPrompt.
- Videos already saved to Photos or shared elsewhere are separate copies. Delete them in Photos or the app you shared to.
We never receive your content, so there is nothing stored on our side.
Does FoldPrompt work on iPhone Duo?
Yes. FoldPrompt adapts to iPhone Duo when it is closed, opened flat, or partly folded on a table, keeping your prompt near the camera and the controls on the lower half. It also works on regular iPhones.
How much does FoldPrompt cost?
FoldPrompt 1.0 is free. There are no ads, subscriptions or in-app purchases, and no account is needed.
Recording stopped or a take is missing
Recording can stop if another app takes the camera or microphone, or if your iPhone runs low on storage. Check free space in Settings > Storage inside FoldPrompt, close other camera apps, and try again. If it keeps happening, email us with your iPhone model and iOS version.
